How to generate a HAR file to troubleshoot web errors in your web browser

What is a HAR file?

The HAR (HTTP Archive) is a log of all the web packets that are sent between the web browser and the end website. It records details such as HTTP headers, cookies, query parameters, load times, response codes, and the sequence of events.

By analyzing this file, the support team can identify potential issues with performance, page rendering, and other aspects of web browsing. It can significantly help in efficiently diagnosing and resolving various problems and issues.

 

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure that you have the following prerequisites:

  • SSID configuration is complete

  • Captive portal configuration is complete

  • The authentication page is available

If you experience some latency or access issues to the Cloudi-Fi captive portal, our support team can ask you to perform a capture of the web requests in your web browser.

This article will explain to you how to perform this task.

To capture the web requests, we will use the "Web Developer mode" of the web browser.

 

How to capture all the web requests

  • Connect to the Guest SSID with your laptop
  • Wait for your default web browser to be automatically opened
  • Open a new tab and start the web developer tools
  • Access to an HTTP website like http://neverssl.com
  • You can stop and save the capture once the captive portal is completely displayed.

  • Press the menu button Web Developer, then Network

  • Check "Persist Logs" and "Disable Cache".
  • Once the capture is finished, go to "HAR Save all as HAR" and save the file on your disk.

Then, send this file to the Cloudi-Fi support team.

  • Press F12 or Press the menu button More tools Developer Tools

  • Check "Preserve log" and "Disable cache."
  • Once the capture is finished, right-click on a web request, select "Save all as HAR with content," and save the file on your disk.

Then, send this file to the Cloudi-Fi Support team.

  • Press F12 and go to the network tab Or press the menu button, More tools Developer tools

  • Disable the option "Delete entries" (2)
  • Once the capture is finished, click on the floppy to save it.
